The biggest community announcement out of WordCamp Asia 2026 wasn’t about code — it was about where WordPress goes next. Closing out the Mumbai event, WordPress Community team member Chenda Ngak announced that WordCamp India will become the WordPress project’s fourth flagship WordCamp, joining WordCamp Europe, WordCamp US, and WordCamp Asia.
The choice is symbolic as much as practical: Mumbai is where India’s first WordPress meetup started back in 2012, and India has grown into one of the largest and most active WordPress communities in the world. Campus Connect, the student-focused education initiative that began in Ajmer, is itself homegrown — and has since expanded to dozens of institutions across multiple countries.
Like other flagship events, WordCamp India 2027 is planned as a three-day format with Contributor Day, two full days of sessions, sponsor and exhibition space, and dedicated networking areas.
The WordPress Community team opened applications for host cities through the Make WordPress Community blog, with the application window running through the end of June 2026 and a host city announcement expected in early August 2026. No exact dates are locked in yet, but organizers are targeting an October–December 2027 window.
