While the flagship WordCamps grab headlines, a quieter but arguably more consequential story is playing out on university campuses across South Asia: WordPress Campus Connect, the project’s initiative to introduce students to open source and the WordPress ecosystem before they graduate.
The program’s cumulative numbers, per the WordPress community team’s monthly education buzz reports, now stand at roughly 5,586 attendees across 71 participating institutions, with 22 events completed in 2026 alone and 42 completed since the program began.
Recent and ongoing activity in the region includes:
- Bangladesh — Campus Connect Rajshahi ran from December 2025 through April 2026 at North Bengal International University, drawing around 80 attendees for sessions on WordPress fundamentals, career paths in the ecosystem, and AI features in WordPress. Cumilla and Kishoreganj followed in June 2026, and Campus Connect Dhaka is running through August 31, 2026.
- India — Campus Connect events landed in Kanpur in February, with Lucknow (Ramaswaroop University) and Kolhapur both running sessions in August 2026.
The initiative traces back to Ajmer, India, and has since spread to schools in multiple countries — reinforcing why India’s WordPress community was picked to host the project’s newest flagship WordCamp.
